‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ Cannot Be Stopped

It’s been two years since the premiere of season 2 of the Amazon Prime television series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.” The good news is that production has been completed recently on season 3 of the John Krasinski-starring show and that Amazon already has ordered work to begin on season 4.

Why the long wait? “Jack Ryan” is a big-budget series that features international locations. Rather than shoot season 3 on the cheap on controlled sets, the team behind the show waited until they could make a show that was up to the high production standards they’d set for the first two seasons.

In the upcoming season 3, we’ve reached the part of the story where our hero is wrongly accused of being part of a larger conspiracy and must go on the run until he can prove his innocence. Have we seen this kind of story before? Of course, but the plot is such a warhorse because it almost always works.

Jack’s a guy who can handle being hunted by both his old team at the CIA and the actual conspiracists who don’t want to be unmasked by a badass like Jack Ryan. The CIA analyst is forced to go underground, and no doubt he’ll be required to save the world (again) before the season ends.

Wendell Pierce (“The Wire”) returns as Jim Greer, and Mike Kelly (“House of Cards”) is back as agent Mike November. Creator Carlton Cuse moved on after season 2, and Vaun Wilmott (“Star Trek: Discovery”) stepped in to run the show, working closely with accomplished filmmaker Krasinski (“A Quiet Place”) on the scripts for the upcoming season.

Amazon has yet to give us a release date for season 3, but it’s bound to be coming soon. Let’s hope for January or February 2022.

There’s also big news for season 4. Michael Peña will join the cast in an as-yet-undefined role. Peña has appeared in “Narcos: Mexico” for Netflix and the movies “Fury,” “Ant-Man” and “End of Watch.”
