Let’s Celebrate the First In-Person USO Tour in Over a Year

If you’re looking for signs that the COVID-19 pandemic is finally winding down, let’s consider the upcoming USO tour featuring Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. John E. Hyten.

The general will lead a crew of entertainers to U.S. military installations around the country after kicking off the tour at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba on June 27. The entertainment will come from country music group LOCASH, Miss America Camille Schrier, comedian Taylor Williamson and DJ J.Dayz.

The USO is being cagey about it, but it promises some surprise celebrity guests at various stops along the way.

LOCASH is a duo featuring Chris Lucas and Preston Brust, who’ve released the Top 10 country hits “I Love This Life,” “I Know Somebody” and “One Big Country Song.” They’ve been nominated for ACM, CMT and CMA awards during their decade-long career.

Schrier was crowned Miss America in December 2019, and she’s held the title since then. Since pandemic restrictions led to the cancellation of the pageant in late 2020, she’ll hold the title for two years. She previously was Miss Virginia and is a graduate of Virginia Tech. She’ll return to her doctoral studies at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy after her Miss America reign ends at the end of 2021.

Williamson was the runner-up during the eighth season of “America’s Got Talent” and a semifinalist in the “Last Comic Standing” competition.

J.Dayz was the first DJ to be a part of the USO Holiday Tour in 2019 and has been a regular at USO events.

The shows are happening from June 27-July 2 and stops include bases in Florida, Washington state, California and Texas.

June 27: Guantanamo Bay Naval Base (Cuba)

June 27: Naval Air Station Pensacola (Florida)

June 28: Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (Washington state)

June 29: Naval Base San Diego (California)

June 30: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (California)

July 1: Joint Base San Antonio (Texas)

July 2: U.S. Army Fort Hood (Texas)

No word on the exact entry requirements, but these shows are usually open only to active duty and their dependents.
