SAN DIEGO — Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens began a three-day trip to San Diego Feb. 17.

During the first day of the trip, they visited Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center (SSC) Pacific, whose work helps ensure America maintains a technological advantage and features heavily in CNO's strategic guidance, 'A Design for Maintaining Maritime Superiority.'

"It's great to be here in San Diego where there is such a visible fleet presence and it's great to be here at SPAWAR where so much is going on," said Richardson. "When we talk about innovation, when we talk about creativity and when we talk about learning—you just need to come here to understand how it all comes together."

CNO and MCPON will hold an all-hands call with Sailors stationed at Naval Base San Diego, Feb 18.

The trip wraps up as CNO joins Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert Neller and Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard Vice Adm. Charles Michel for a joint-service town hall discussion.

The town hall is part of WEST, a naval conference and exposition on the West Coast, co-sponsored by the AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) International and the U.S. Naval Institute.

Throughout the visit, CNO and MCPON will tour various waterfront activities and meet with Sailors and Navy leaders.
