LAS VEGAS -- Standard Manufacturing Company's DP-12 Double Barrel Pump Shotgun would have been right at home blasting baddies in the 2005 sci-fi movie "Doom."
The great thing about SHOT Show is there are always these strange, hybrid weapons at range day that just put a smile on my face.
The DP-12 is a beefy weapon that holds 16 rounds of 12 gauge shells -- 14 in the two tubular magazines and two in the chambers. It features two 18-7/8- inch barrels.
It may be more of a novelty than an effective, tactical shotgun, but I just had to shoot it.
The DP-12 is a bit bulky, but that's to be expected. It weighs nine pounds 12 ounces unloaded. It feeds two shells together, but only shoots one shell at a time, right to left. Recoil is rather light.
The forward pistol grip provides decent ergonomics for cycling the weapon, but I found it difficult to get used to firing two rounds before pumping. I kept wanting to rack the pump after shooting only one round as with traditional pump shotguns.
I'll stick with my Benelli Supernova. If you want to rock the DP-12, it will cost you $1,395.
