Corps Identifies Marine Found Dead with Gunshot Wound at Pendleton

The U.S. Marine Corps has identified the Marine who was found dead early Monday morning at Camp Pendleton in California.

Lance Cpl. Dominic E. Schraft, 19, of Vienna, Missouri, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head at about 6 a.m. Oct. 5 at Marksmanship Training Range 214 on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, according to a press release from the base.

Schraft was assigned to Battery R, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, the release states. He joined the Marine Corps in August 2014 and served as a field radio operator, it states.

Schraft never deployed during his career in the Marine Corps, though he received such awards as the National Defense Service medal and Global War on Terrorism Service medal, according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation.
