101st Airborne Ambushed in Kunar

    On March 29, 2011 the men of Cougar Company, 2-237 Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division infiltrated within the early morning hours into the Ganjgal Valley located in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan. This valley has been known for a historic build up of enemy forces. Within Cougar Company consisted a 60mm Infantry Mortar Section, call sign “Metal”. The Infantry Mortar Section received orders to secure the landing zone for a later extraction point and to provide fire support for Cougar Company throughout the operation. During the infiltration on landing zone “Bee Eater” Cougar Company made contact with an enemy ambush which resulted in mortally wounding several Cougar Company Soldiers. This is actual footage of the third enemy attack which transpired on landing zone “Bee Eater” during the nine day enemy stand-off.
