AH-1W Super Cobra TACP Live Fire

    UDAIRI RANGE, Kuwait (July 23, 2012) — Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, through joint integration efforts with U.S. Air Force tactical air controllers, conduct close air support training using 24th MEU AH-1W Cobras from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261 (Reinforced) at Udairi Range in Kuwait, July 23, 2012. The event culminated with a live-fire range using the Cobra’s guns, rockets, and an AGM-114B Hellfire missile. The Cobras are attached to VMM-261 (Reinforced) from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269, based out of Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. The 24th MEU is currently deployed with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group as a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
