Calling all Spartans! Spartan announced this week they will again be featuring their “Honor Series” of races with presenting sponsor USAA at four military installations and three satellite locations across the country. This news means you can sign up and then drive your friends and family crazy with non-stop references from the movie 300.

Courtesy of USAA, current/former military members and first-responders and current USAA members can receive a 25% discount on race registration through ID.me.

It may not be the Nasty Nick, but Spartan has some tough races with their Ultra race clocking in at more than 30 miles and 60 obstacles.

The races will be held on installation at Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Knox Kentucky; and the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. Other races will be held in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Dallas, Texas.

The first race will be a Spartan Sprint on Fort Benning on April 14 and the course will be included as a part of the annual “Best Ranger” competition which is a grueling, sixty-two hour race to determine the best two-man team from the entire United States military.

Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena said, “The Honor Series was created to pay tribute to members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and together with USAA and thousands of racers, we will honor servicemen and women across this great nation.”

The Spartan Series features four race categories: Sprint, Super, Beast and Ultra. The Sprint is three to five miles with 20 to 25 obstacles. The Super is eight to ten miles with more than 25 obstacles, the Beast is 12 to 14 miles with more than 25 obstacles and the Ultra, as mentioned above, is insane with 30 miles and 60 obstacles to cover. Races will also feature a Spartan Kids race for the younger set between the ages of four and 14.

“Competitive spirit and a desire to be the best are common traits among those who serve and defend our nation,” said Eric Engquist, USAA vice president and former U.S. Army officer. “The Spartan Honor Series Presented by USAA brings elite-level challenges to service members’ doorsteps, allowing them to compete alongside their civilian counterparts and highlights the many unique talents of America’s military community.”

In addition to the April 14 race at Fort Benning, below is the schedule and type of races featured at each location:

  • May 5: Fort Carson (CO) – Super and Sprint races
  • May 12: Fayetteville, NC – Super and Sprint races
  • July 14: Fort Knox (KY) – Sprint race
  • August 25: West Point (NY) – Sprint race
  • September 22: Nashville, TN – Super and Sprint races
  • October 27: Dallas, TX – Sprint, Beast and Ultra races

All competitors who finish will get a special Honor Series medal and twenty dollars from registrations between March 15 and March 29 will be donated to OSCAR MIKE with those competitors getting a special edition OSCAR MIKE Spartan t-shirt.

So gird your loins (or whatever areas you feel need girding), grab your friends, and show those civilian Spartans how it’s done!
