Kit Up! tried hard to get in on this whole government shutdown story but couldn't really eek out an angle.
We pinged PEO Soldier and Army HQ at the Pentagon (assuming that their answer would be the same or similar to other services' gear shops) and were told this: we're not sure.
Units and organizations received the guidance from DOD only yesterday so still working through the impacts of the shutdown. Please take a look at this DOD guidance which does reference the excepted activities under Acquisition and Logistic Support. Some examples of excepted activities include: permanent change of station moves funded with prior year funds for active duty, reserve, and civilian personnel; Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation New Dawn (OND); operation of mortuary affairs activities and attendant other services necessary to properly care for the fallen and their families, and operations of child care activities. and organizations received the guidance from DOD only yesterday so still working through the impacts of the shutdown. So I guess that means Joes (and Airmen) will still get their OCP gear, Marines will still get their IARs and Sailors will still get their NWUs. We'll check back for the details if the government does indeed shut down for any period of time.
But tell us what's up in the field? Are any readers feeling the effects out there yet?
