The commander of a lead training wing has been removed from his post due to a loss of confidence in his ability to lead, according to the Air Force.
Maj. Gen. Craig Wills, commander of the 19th Air Force, relieved Col. Timothy Danielson at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma, on Friday "for a loss of trust and confidence" in his ability to command and oversee the 71st Flying Training Wing, according to a statement from Air Education and Training Command, or AETC.
Danielson, who assumed command of the 71st in June, has been reassigned to a staff position within the Air Force, AETC spokeswoman Marilyn Holliday said in an email Monday.

"Commanders must uphold the highest standards and create and maintain a proper environment in their unit," AETC commander Lt. Gen. Brad Webb said in the statement. "Our airmen, families and the critical mission of training future pilots and leaders deserve nothing less."
Col. Jay Johnson, vice commander of the 71st, has temporarily assumed command of the wing following Danielson's removal.
The 71st oversees the specialized undergraduate pilot training, or SUPT, program. More than 300 U.S. Air Force and allied student pilots graduate from the program annually. The wing operates more than 200 aircraft, including the T-1A Jayhawk, T-6A Texan II and T-38C Talon.
Prior to his role at Vance, Danielson served as the 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group commander at Pope Army Airfield, North Carolina, according to a service release.
Danielson has served as an aircraft commander, instructor and flight examiner in the C-21, C-130 Hercules and KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, the release states.
He was commissioned in 1998 through the University of Alabama's ROTC program.
