Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound Prompts Active-Shooter Lockdown at Marine Base

A shelter-in-place order at a California Marine Corps base was lifted Tuesday morning after reports of an active shooter.

One person suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound at approximately 8:30 a.m. at Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Marine officials said Tuesday. The person is being treated and will be transported to a nearby medical facility, added Capt. Joe Butterfield, a Marine spokesman at the Pentagon.

"There are no other injuries reported at this time," he said.

Law enforcement personnel responded to reports of gunshots early Tuesday morning. It prompted a lockdown on the sprawling training base in the Mojave Desert.

Officials at Twentynine Palms who were reached by phone on Tuesday declined to provide any additional details about the incident. Butterfield said the situation is under investigation.
