How do you know you have a perfect resume as a veteran or military spouse? You get flooded with requests for an interview. While even the most perfect resume will never automatically get you the job, your mediocre resume is probably keeping you from getting interviews for the jobs you want.
Why Is It So Hard to Write a Perfect Resume?
As the transition master coach for Military.com's Veteran Employment Project, I've taught thousands of transitioning military, veterans and military spouses how to write a better resume.
Often when I am working with veterans, they have so much experience that it feels like we are trying to cram an 8,000-pound elephant into an itty-bitty civilian airplane. Not only is it uncomfortable, it is probably dangerous.
Military spouses have a different resume problem, because the military moves them on average every 2.5 years. Spouses end up doing so many jobs that their resumes look like they have a herd of 8,000 one-pound elephants that we have to corral into the very same airplane.
