Officials have said the Space Force could eventually expand its mission beyond protecting Earth-bound warfighters.

China, Russia and Iran have watched how U.S. forces use space-based technologies on the battlefield.

The U.S. Air Force has identified 23 organizations and units that will transition to the U.S. Space Force.

Some names floating around already include Guardians, Sentinels and Vanguards.
