The commanding officer of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training in Pensacola was relieved of command.

The Navy's most-senior leaders have recommended that Capt. Brett Crozier be reinstated as the ship's commanding officer.

The Navy has completed its investigation into Crozier, though the results have not been made public.

The service's top leaders issued separate force-wide messages pledging to keep sailors and their families safe.

Modly submitted his resignation letter to Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Tuesday.

Thomas Modly, who resigned from his position on Tuesday, told sailors and Marines they are justified in being angry with him.

"Let me be clear," Modly said. "I do not think Captain Brett Crozier is naïve nor stupid."

Trump said Crozier "did a bad thing" by sending the letter, but added that "people have bad days."
