2020 Mileage Rates for Government Travel

The mileage reimbursement rates for official travel via Privately Owned Vehicle decreased in 2020.

For PCS travel the Mileage Allowance In Lieu of Transportation (MALT) rate is $0.17 per mile, down from $0.20 per mile

The official mileage distance is determined by Defense Department. The number of travelers in the vehicle has no bearing on the amount of MALT paid.

The table below shows the basic TDY mileage rates for the three vehicle types for which the government provides a mileage allowance. Again, remember government vehicle availability impacts the limitation on reimbursement if a private vehicle isn't in the government's interest.
