Executive Order Helps Vet Education

Earlier this month, President Obama signed an executive order to help servicemembers and their families by expanding suicide prevention strategies and taking steps to meet the current and future demand for mental health and substance abuse treatment services for veterans, service members, and their families.

I found a couple of education related nuggets burried in the press release.

  • The Department of Defense has awarded approximately $25 million to military-connected Local Education Agencies (LEAs) this summer to focus on increasing student achievement and easing transitions through research-based academic and support programs.

  • VA has included the Post-9/11 GI Bill application process in the eBenefits portal, including transferability to spouses or children for service members with over six years of service. Servicemembers can now apply on-line to transfer the benefits of their Post-9/11 GI Bill to eligible beneficiaries.

Stay tuned for more detials on the LEA's as I get them.
