Special Operations Research & Development USA makes a modern version of the field jacket for those looking for a no-melt, no-drip shell with a ton of features.

The General Purpose Jacket is generously sized and designed to be able to be worn over armor. It comes with a removable inner liner that can be worn separately, according to SORD USA's website.

The outer shell is 100 percent rip-stop cotton, which won't melt like many high-tech synthetic shells when exposed to extreme heat.

The jacket liner is made from 190-gram Primaloft fleece and features its own pockets when worn without the outer shell.

The jacket features an adjustable hood and 11 pockets, front and back. It has fleece-lined hand pockets. A poacher's pocket located in the rear can be used to stow extra gear or the liner when not in use.

SORD USA's General Purpose Jacket comes in charcoal gray, navy blue, black, OD green and coyote. It retails for $300, but you can get it at Optactical.com for $200.
