If you're planning a trip to New York, make sure you include a stop at some of the following places that offer military discounts.
The 9/11 Memorial Museum offers veterans discounted admission and active duty military, retired military and 9/11 family members are free. The Museum displays artifacts associated with the events of 9/11, and admission tickets include entry to all exhibitions.
The Empire State Building in Midtown Manhattan offers a military discounted rate of $36.05 per person with a military ID for tickets to the 86th Floor Main Deck Observatory. Those in uniform are admitted free of charge to the observatory. This military discount applies to active duty, veterans and NATO members only.
3. Bronx Zoo
The Bronx Zoo has fun exhibits like the Congo Gorilla Forest, Himalayan Highlands, Tiger Mountain, and Madagascar!, featuring species of animals from around the globe. The zoo offers military discounts that are available six days a week, year-round (excludes Wednesdays) on-site at any Admissions booth.
The mission of Manhattan's Carnegie Hall is to present extraordinary music and musicians on their three stages. Both active duty personnel and veterans of the military can save 30% on tickets to Carnegie Hall presentations (excluding galas and Weill Music Institute events). These tickets can only be purchased in person at the Box Office.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), located in Midtown Manhattan, offers free admission to active duty military and military families (with dependent cards).
The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum lets you explore history aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. The Intrepid Museum offers active duty military and veterans free general admission. Veterans also receive a 20% discount on Individual, Dual and Family Memberships.
The New York Aquarium, which is just off the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn, includes 14 acres of exhibits and attractions like their Conservation Hall and Sea Cliffs. The aquarium offers military discounts year-round. Active duty military receive free Value or Any Day Admission ticket and a 50% discount for up to three family members. Veterans receive a 20% discount on Value or Any Day Admission tickets.
8. New York MTA
Trying to figure out how to get around the city? The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) offers fare at a 25% discount for active duty military.
New York Water Taxi is a fun way to experience New York by boat sightseeing. They offer a $10 off discount for active and non-active duty veterans on all regular cruises with a military ID.
Want to see New York from the water? Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises has guided sightseeing tours with great views of the city, including the Statue of Liberty both during the day and at night. And they offer a 50% military discount on all cruises.
Of course, at some point, you have to eat. Many restaurants in New York offer a military discount, including Hard Rock Cafe and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Make sure to ask about military discounts wherever you dine and have your military ID with you!
