MCLEAN, Va.,– (BUSINESS WIRE) – Military.com and their military spouse-focused website, CinCHouse.com, launched an online effort to recognize military spouses Monday.

Applications and nominations for the Military.com and CinCHouse.com’s Spouse of the Year Award 2010 will be taken from March 1 to March 30.

Applicants are asked to write a 500-800 word essay on why the applicant, his or her spouse or a friend deserve the award, and include a photo. Community voting on the 10 semi-finalists begins April 1 and closes April 15 and a distinguished panel of judges will evaluate the 10 semi-finalists beginning on April 15. The winner will receive $5,000 cash, plus a trip to Washington, DC where he or she will receive an award at a ceremony on May 6 on Capitol Hill.

Applications will be taken through the website. Click here or go to: http://www.cinchouse.com/Articles/SpouseoftheYear/tabid/8377/Default.aspx.

Judges are looking for spouses with compelling stories about the struggles and triumphs of military life, and stories of those who go above and beyond by helping others even while enduring deployments and frequent moves as a military family.

Military.com President and retired Navy Rear Admiral, T. McCreary said, “Spouses are the backbone of our military and all too often their sacrifices go unrecognized. This is an opportunity to say thank you and shine a light on all these spouses do for their families and our military community.”

CinCHouse.com founder Meredith Leyva commented, “This is something we do to recognize the extraordinary individuals who essentially serve our country for free by being a military spouse. These are people who go above and beyond every day and yet they still find time to volunteer, help others and improve their communities with innovative thinking.”
