New Veteran Career Network to launch on Veterans Day

MAYNARD, Mass. & San Francisco -- Monster®, the leading global online careers and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: MNST), and its subsidiary Military.com, the nation’s largest military membership organization, today announced a series of initiatives aimed at promoting the talents of America’s veterans this Veterans Day, November 11th.

“Veterans comprise a large, attractive talent pool to our nation’s employers, offering technical skills, leadership experience, integrity, diversity and security clearances,” said Andrew McKelvey, Chairman and CEO, Monster Worldwide.  “To date, however, America’s veterans have been an elusive and not easily identifiable employment source for employers. In addition, veterans are often unaware of the choices and opportunities available to them.  Monster and Military.com are bringing together veterans and our nation’s employers.”

Helping Employers Unleash the Power of the Veteran Talent Pool
There are 14 million veterans in the U.S. workforce today -- over 1 in 4 adult males have served in the military.  Employers are increasingly seeing the value of hiring veterans, who comprise fully 25% of all federal workers and 11% of private sector workers. This is a vibrant talent pipeline, with 250,000 people transitioning out of the military each year.

Technical skills, qualifications and values make veterans attractive candidates for open positions. The U.S. Military, one of the world’s largest training organizations, spends $17B annually to educate leaders, managers and skilled technicians in many of America’s most sought-after fields, such as healthcare, engineering, linguistics, IT, logistics, transportation, mechanical/electrical fields and more. Veterans are four times as likely to be in high demand engineering fields as the U.S. workforce at large.

Monster, together with Military.com, is the largest provider of career resources to veterans, offering a suite of services to assist veterans and transitioning military personnel in making the most of their military experience. Today, over 55% of all transitioning servicemembers utilize Monster and Military.com during their career search.

As part of the coordinated effort, visitors to Military.com’s Veteran Career Center now have direct access to Monster job search tools, allowing veterans to find employers that value military experience. In addition, veterans can post their resume to Monster or use the Military to Civilian Skills Translator.

Leveraging the Power of the Veteran Community:  New Veteran Career Network to Launch on Veterans Day
To harness the power of the 30 million people in America’s military community and their eagerness to help one another, Military.com will launch a new Veteran Career Network (www.Military.com/Network) on Veterans Day, November 11th.

“We believe this network has the potential to forever change how veterans transition from the military and seek new employment opportunities.  Veterans have a deep understanding of the value of military service and they now have an easy to use tool to search for their fellow service members by employer, career field or location,” said Chris Michel, founder and president of Military.com.  “During testing, over 200,000 veterans signed up to assist others in finding career opportunities.”

The free Veteran Career Network enables employers to tap into their internal veteran employee networks in ways they never thought possible to support recruiting and retention.   In addition, search results will link to related job openings available on Monster.com.

Making it Easier for Employers to Identify Veteran Candidates
Monster and Military.com are also working closely with employers to help build demand for veterans and simplify their ability to source candidates from this valuable talent pool.
Monster and Military.com have made it easier for employers to identify veterans by placing a U.S. flag next to veteran resumes in Monster’s resume database.  Monster also actively supports the Department of Labor’s HireVetsFirst initiative and is participating in several job fairs across the country to promote veterans to employers. Monster Government Solutions is also promoting veterans’ preference information on USAJOBS, the official job resource of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management managed by Monster.

“The Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Labor, and Monster are raising awareness for the size and scope of America’s veteran talent pool.   The Veteran Career Network complements these efforts and facilitates the networking and mentoring that has long been the hallmark of the military community,” said Michel.
