An entrepreneurial group based in northern Virginia plans on hosting an event that helps service members, veterans, retirees and department civilians start a business within the national security sector.
Tandem NSI was stood up in February by venture capitalist Jonathan Aberman with the help of a grant from the state of Virginia to help establish a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Washington, D.C., region.
Aberman, the managing director and chairman of Amplifier Ventures, said he wants to reach out to military members and veterans to host an event that provides the knowledge and tools to help beginner entrepreneurs take their first steps toward starting a company. The goal is to run the event in May or June of 2014.
In order to do so, the group wants to hear from members of the military community to understand what type of event would offer the most help. Aberman said he could foresee an event that is one or two days of educational sessions with business owners, investors and business professors.
But he wants to tailor it to what would be most helpful to current or former military members who have that idea for a company, or have even taken the steps toward starting a company, and want to learn more about how to do it.
