New York State veterans who paid a fee to receive a distinguishing mark on their driver's license or ID after October, 2012 will now be eligible for a reimbursement. Last year, a bill was signed into law suspending the fee for veterans who are eligible to receive a special indicator on their Department of Motor Vehicles documents, but many veterans had been paying the fee since October 2012. The retroactive measure was signed into law in August, 2015. Each eligible veteran will receive a letter and a refund check from the state automatically.
